Sony to Sell PlayStation Products in China
Sony Computer Entertainment has launched its PlayStation in China in partnership with a Chinese company with its products expected to be available as early as January 2015.
Working with Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group, Sony said PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and related software would hit the Chinese mainland soon. The company plans to work with Chinese gaming developers in the Chinese market.
Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group announced this May that it would join forces with Sony to set up two joint ventures in Shanghai for production and sale of PlayStation consoles.
The PlayStation 4 will be priced at 2,899 yuan (470 US dollars). Pre-ordering begins Friday, and the products are expected to hit stores on Jan. 11, 2015.
Sony's PlayStation 4 has been an instant hit since it debuted in November last year. Having sold 13.5 million units by September 2014, it is fastest selling PlayStation.
Competition in Chinese market is already fierce. In September, Microsoft launched the Chinese version of its Xbox One console across 37 cities in China.
