National Geographic in Deal With China’s Tencent
Some 300 hours of National Geographic Channel documentaries will be available in China following a deal between Fox International Channels and online giant Tencent.
The deal will see NGC shows air from 2015 on Tencent Video.
The two companies said that they will also cooperate on production of China-focussed programming.
"One of our priorities is to introduce premium content in China. We are very pleased to form the partnership with FOX International Channels for National Geographic Channel programming. With NGC’s expertise on documentaries, we will co-develop programs focusing on this fast moving society,” said SY Lau, senior executive VP of Tencent and president of Tencent Online Media Group.
The deal was signed by Lau and Tony Qi, territory head for China at FOX International Channels.
