Wanda Cinema, a subsidiary of Wanda Group, has installed RealD 3D technology on more than 1,000 theater screens across China, both companies announced Tuesday.
The 1,000 screen milestone was reached in November 2014 and marked the growth of the two companies' partnership after signing a renewed agreement in March 2014. The agreement stipulated that Wanda was to double the then 800 RealD 3D installations in the next three years, to a total of 1,600 screens. At the same time, RealD has become the exclusive circuit-wide 3D technology provider for Wanda Cinema Line.
"This number is a milestone. It represents the rapid growth of Wanda Cinema as well as China’s movie business. I believe this is a new beginning of our cooperation with RealD. Wanda upholds the management philosophy to place the audience’s viewing value and viewing experience at the center of our business. With this philosophy, we will continue to deepen our cooperation with RealD and together we will constantly bring in a more immersive movie-going experience for the Chinese audience,” said Zen Maojun, general manager of Wanda Cinema Line.

RealD also began a quality management program called RealD 6FL Certification with Wanda, which was the first cinema circuit in Asia to commit to the program. The program demands that qualified theaters always show 3D movies in 6-foot Lamberts brightness. The qualified theaters will receive regular checkups to ensure 3D projection brightness and quality.
Through Dec. 6, there are six Wanda Cinema auditoriums certified as RealD 6FL, including auditorium number 9 at Wanda Cinema's Beijing CBD location, which was the first RealD 6FL screen certified in Asia, and two premium large- format screens known as X-land auditoriums.
RealD is the world's most widely used 3D cinema technology, and has been installed in more than 26,000 auditoriums by around 1,000 exhibitors in 73 countries across the globe.
Wanda Cinema is the biggest cinema circuit in China, owning and operating 150 cinemas and 1,315 screens, among them 121 premium large-format screens, in over 80 cities across China. In 2014, Wanda's box-office takings comprised 14.5% of the total box-office takings in China. The company plans to build more than 400 new screens annually, and expects to own 260 cinemas and 2,300 screens by 2016.
