Giant to Introduce Mobile Version of Hit Game
Giant Interactive will launch a mobile version of Zhengtu in December, the most successful online game in the company's history, the Shanghai-based game giant said yesterday.
Giant, which completed a US$3 billion privatization from the New York market earlier this year, aims to invest heavily in mobile games by developing new titles as well as acquiring and expanding its mobile game titles.
"Mobile game is the opportunity we can't miss," Shi Yuzhu, Giant's founder and chairman, said on his microblog account.
The company, along with Shanda and Perfect World, is expanding into the highly popular mobile gaming sector in China as people are increasingly playing games on handsets.
Giant is in talks to acquire one of the top-five mobile application platforms in China, said Ji Xuefeng, Giant's president.
But app platforms are costly to acquire. For example, Baidu.com paid US$1.9 billion to buy 91 Wireless platform in 2013.
