China Pushes 'Hunger Games' Opening to Jan
Mainland fans of the "Hunger Games" will have to wait until January to watch the first part of the franchise's finale, "Mockingjay: Part 1."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie was supposed to open on the mainland this Friday. But China's film authorities pushed the date back to the beginning of next year to balance out the domestic and foreign box office takes on the mainland for the end of the year.
China's box office has been dominated by Hollywood blockbusters this year. Hollywood mega-hits like "Transformers: Age of Extinction," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" have put foreign movies ahead of domestic titles in earnings.
But China will end the year with a series of big-budget domestic films, including John Woo's "The Crossing," Jiang Wen's "Gone with the Bullets," and Tsui Hark's "The Taking of Tiger Mountain."
