Wong Kar-wai Hired New Leader for Int’l Production Role
Winnie Lau has been appointed head of international co-production and distribution for Jettone, the production and talent management company created by Wong Kar-wai.
Lau is a 13 year veteran of Fortissimo Films, where she was recently VP of acquisitions and sales, and for which she has held positions in Amsterdam, New York and Beijing.
Jettone said that in the newly created position Lau will be expected to lead the company’s strategic partnerships and co-productions with overseas media companies. She will be based in Beijing and Hong Kong.
The company has a multi-picture, multi-year arrangement with Alibaba Pictures Group.
Jet Tone Films, in association with Annapurna Pictures, is currently completing post-production on Wong Kar Wai’s “The Grandmaster 3D,” a 3D re-mastering of the director’s hit 2013 biopic. The picture will be released theatrically in China by Bona Films in October.
Jet Tone’s latest production, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Double Edge Entertainment, “Partners in Crime,” screened earlier this month at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and will next show at the Busan International Film Festival. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in Taiwan later this month.
