Hong Kong-based Emperor Motion Pictures is expanding its team with the appointment of production veteran Daniel Yu as production controller and cinema operations specialist Damon Chan as general manager of the group’s mainland Chinese exhibition wing.
“With Daniel and Damon on board, we look forward to an amazing period of vision and growth in both our film production and exhibitions business,” said Albert Lee, CEO of EMP.
“Their joint expertise and experience will be invaluable in helping us identify the films the market wants and also find great venues to screen them in,” said Lee.
Yu, whose credits include Fruit Chan’s Made in Hong Kong and Ning Hao’s Crazy Stone, co-founded Team Work Productions with actor Andy Lau in 1990, then 10 years later started October Films.
He will be based in Hong Kong and will oversee all aspects of coming EMP productions.
Chan joins EMP’s Beijing office after seven years at Orange Sky Golden Harvest, with his last held position being chief operating officer for the mainland. In his new role as general manager for exhibitions in China, Chan will spearhead EMP’s first foray into the exhibition arena in mainland China.
Emperor UA Vivo City, a joint venture between EMP and UA Cinemas, is scheduled to open in Foshan in Guangdong province in the south in May, with plans in other cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen to follow.
