The BBC is planning to come to Taiwan to shoot a TV series, the Taipei Film Commission told CNA Thursday.
Jennifer Jao, the commission's director, said a TV production team from the BBC plans to shoot the series in Taiwan this year, with current plans calling for a 40-episode series. It will have content that is "related to Asia," she said.
The BBC approached the commission last year and has spent at least six months in talks over cooperation, she said.
Jao said she was unable to reveal more details due to the confidential nature of their agreement, but she said the production team will be stationed in Taiwan on a long-term basis, a position that stands to benefit Taiwan's local TV industry workers.
Jao said that all 40 episodes will be shot in Taiwan over three to four months, and the BBC has begun initial location scouting.
A contract is expected to be signed by August, after which the Film Commission will help the BBC work with other cities and counties to bring the benefits of cooperation across the country.
This is not the first time that Taiwan has cooperated with the BBC, she said, noting that the BBC came to Taiwan to shoot single episodes of TV series or programs in 2009.
She expressed the hope that shooting in Taiwan can help the country gain more recognition in the film and TV community.
