HKTV buys China Mobile HK
Following previous announcement that they are establishing a mobile television channel, it was reported that HKTV had recently bought the mobile services company, China Mobile Hong Kong Corporations Ltd.
However, according to HK Channel, the acquisition has nothing to do with mobile phone services.
Speaking to the media at the press conference announcing their new venture, CEO Ricky Wong clarified, "It's just a misunderstanding. The company is only a subsidiary to provide TV service. It has nothing to do with mobile phone services."
In regards to the mobile TV, it was revealed that consumers will only have to purchase a special receiver to get the programming offered by HKTV, at the price of HKD 700 (USD 90.26).
The company revealed that a normal online connection will not be too clear for the broadcasted content, and that the new receiver will be stable to accommodate signals from rural areas.
HKTV will offer around 260 hours of drama content in 2014, while the CEO plans to add another 800 to 1000 employees in the next two years, including those they had to let go earlier.
