'Gravity’ Launches in China With $9 Million
Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity” has taken off explosively in the red-hot Chinese market with $9 million in its first two days.
Warner Bros. reported that Tuesday’s opening-day gross of $4.7 million at 5,854 screens represented its biggest non-holiday launch for that market.
The Sandra Bullock action-drama took in $4.2 million on Wednesday, amounting to 68% of the top films in the market.
“Gravity” grossed $2.2 million from its other international markets Tuesday. The worldwide total has gone past $530 million with the foreign cume topping $290 million while the domestic total has eclipsed $240 million.
France is the top international market for “Gravity” with $33 million, followed by South Korea with $26 million. Japan will be the last market to launch with a Dec. 13 opening.
China was biggest market for Warner’s sci-fier “Pacific Rim” with $111 million, outperforming the U.S. by $10 million.
