Chinese studio Dreams of the Dragon Pictures (DDP) has hired Christopher DeHau Lee as president of its film entertainment division, overseeing film development and production as well as international business for the company.

Lee, who was previously president of the China-based production company and consultancy Move Eye Media and before that worked for DMG, will be based in Beijing and Los Angeles.

Before moving to China he worked at Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, Ron Burkle’s Absolute Entertainment and Paramount-based Melee Entertainment.

DDP was the Chinese partner for Cloud Atlas, handling distribution and marketing in mainland China, where the film took $27.7 million. It also produced Heaven Eternal, Earth Everlasting.

The company also has a television production studio and talent management division, representing some of China’s upcoming young talent.

In addition to projects developed in-house, DDP is co-financing and co-producing films as well as acquiring them for distribution in China. Their current slate includes an epic romantic drama centered on Beijing's Old Summer Palace, an adaptation of a hit Chinese TV comedy series, a mystery suspense film based on the case of Elisa Lam, and a modern-day international action thriller.

DDP plans to release between five to eight films a year.
"I am looking forward to many new collaborations and making some great films," said Lee.
