Asia Society to Present 4th Annual US-China Film Summit
Asia Society Southern California’s Entertainment and Media in Asia (EMASIA) will present its Fourth annual U.S.-China Film Summiton Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.PST at Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Due to the success of last year’s event, the summit has been expanded to anall-day event, offering a six-panel discussion, which will bring together prominent Chinese and Hollywood film industry leaders who will share their experiences and strategies on successfully navigating the East-West filmmaking process. This insightful and timely summit will focus on the trends and dynamics facing the U.S.-China film industry relationships and recent advances in Hollywood and China partnerships and collaborations.
The Gala Awards Dinner, also at Millennium Biltmore Hotel, will feature keynote addresses from Senator Christopher Dodd,Chairman and CEO, Motion Picture Association of America, who will receive the 2013 Asia Pacific Visionary award, and LI Bingbing. Actress, Forbidden Kingdom and I Do, who will receive the 2012 East-West Talent award. The Gala begins with a VIP reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 7:00 p.m.
The U.S.-China Film Summit, will feature keynote addresses from Greg Foster, Chairman & President, IMAX Entertainment and Zhang Xun, President, China Film Co-Production Corporation.

The Summit’s first panel, “Year in Review” will feature key players, includingWilliam Feng, General Manager and Chief Representative, Motion Picture Association-China,and Michael Ellis from the MPA, discussing the major issues and trends that have developed over the past year.
The second panel will focus on the “Societal and Cultural Impact of Hollywood/China Collaboration,” and feature key experts on film and society. The panel will be moderated by Jonathan Landreth, from ChinaFileand includes panelists:Charles Coker, Managing Director, Dasym, Media; Stanley Rosen, Professor USC;and Orville Schell, from the Center on U.S.-China Relations.
The third panel, “So You Want to Make a Film in China…What You Need to Know,” will be moderated by Janet Yang, Producer of Shanghai Calling, and featureEllen Eliasoph, CEO, Village Roadshow Pictures Asia; Dennie Gordon, Director, My Lucky Star; Yimeng Jin, Writer/Director, One Night Surprise; and Sophie’s Revenge; and XUE Xiaolu, Director, Finding Mr. Right.
In the afternoon, the fourth panel, “The Media’s Perspective on the U.S. China Film Relationship” will be moderated by Stephen Saltzman,Partner, Loeb & Loeb and feature panelists: Rachel Abrams, Financial News Editor, Variety;Robert Cain, President, Pacific Bridge Pictures and Publisher/Writer, ChinaFilmBiz;Clifford Coonan,Asia Bureau Chief, The Hollywood Reporter; and Julie Makinen, Film Editor, Los Angeles Times.
The fifth panel, “The Digital Space: The China Opportunity/Strategy in Technology, Animation, and Special Effects” will feature panelists: Lewis Coleman, President & CFO DreamWorks Animation SKG, Charles Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Sohu and ZHANG Zhao, CEO, LeVision Pictures.
The sixth and final panel, “Envisioning a Collaborative Future and Celebrating Success” will be moderated by Bennett Pozil, Executive Vice President, East West Bank and include panelists: Dede Nickerson, Head, Production and Strategic Development, Sony Pictures Entertainment, China;Peter Shiao, Founder and CEO, Orb Media Group; and Ivy Zhong, Vice Chairman, Galloping Horse.The Summit is presented in cooperation with the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE), China Hollywood Society, Loyola Law School, Producers Guild of America (PGA), and USC U.S.-China Institute.
