Two rival states are coming together for the sake of Art.
Producer Michel Shane (I, Robot), the Chinese government, Asian distributor Flamingo Features and Japanese studio Genco are prepping a television series based on Sun Tzu's classic treatise The Art of War. The show will be filmed in China in English, with postproduction in Montreal.
"The series is an American-style high-action adventure all around [Sun's] philosophies and his life," Shane tells THR. The China-Japan collaboration, which will target the international market, is unusual given those countries' tense relationship.
Says Genco founder Taro Maki, "Our full-fledged multinational collaboration stems from a mutual respect for Sun Tzu and his masterpiece."
