'You are the Apple of My Eye' Seeks Bigger Success on the Mainland
The record breaking highest grossing Chinese-language film ever released in Hong Kong, director Giddens Ko's romance 'You Are the Apple of My Eye' is expected to continue its roller-coaster success when it hits mainland cinema screens this month.
According to a report on Mtime.com, producer Chai Zhiping accompanied leading actors Ke Zhendong and Michelle Chen to Shanghai on January 4. While in Shanghai, the producer and lead actors attended a press conference to promote the movie which is due to be released in mainland cinemas on January 6.
On the last day of 2011, the movie grossed 61.295 million HKD in the region, bumping Stephen Chow's "Kung Fu Hustle" off the top spot of Hong Kong's Top 10 Box-Office Records list.
Producer Chai said at the press conference that the box office success in Hong Kong and Taiwan had already proved the quality of the movie. "Whether it can continue to succeed will depend on mainland audiences," she told the media.
Based on a true story of director Giddens Ko, the movie recalls how he and his friends attempted to woo a girl when they were in high school. Ko believes that the movie will resonate with Chinese audiences as everyone can remember their first love.
