'American Dreams in China' Saved Peter Chan's Career
Hong Kong film director Peter Chan recently talked about his experience in filmmaking and revealed that he nearly went bankrupt due to the failure of some of his movies.
According to HK Top Ten website, Peter revealed that his filming career nearly ended when the movies he produced, "Bodyguards And Assassins" (2009), and directed, "The Warlords" (2007) and "Wu Xia" (also known as "Dragon") failed in the box office.
He continued, "Luckily, my new movie "American Dreams In China" made over RMB 500 million (USD 81.7 mil) and pulled me back in!"
The famed director recently attended the Venice Film Festival with his father to the screening of the restored version premiere of his classic, "Comrades: Almost A Love Story".
While speaking to the media after the screening, Peter revealed that he had a lot of trouble trying to borrow the movie from the distributor.
The 50-year-old director stated that the film rights of "Comrades" belonged to the giant film production and distribution Orange Sky Golden Harvest, before it transferred to Warner Bros.
"I received the screening notice from Venice three to four months ago and tried to negotiate with Warner. But it took them over a month to decide to lend me the film for restoration," he said.
