HK Film Festival Launches Year-Round Repertory Program

The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) has launched a new year-round monthly repertory program, HKIFF Cine Fan, showcasing restored classics, tributes to masters, genre films and other rarely seen cinematic gems.

Financed by government agency Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Film Development Fund, HKIFF Cine Fan is based at the agnès b. CINEMA at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. Hong Kong singer-songwriter Anthony Wong has been named as ambassador of the program.

The first edition of the HKIFF Cine Fan runs from April 5 through May 25, opening with a showing of Golden Scene’s local dance movie The Way We Dance. The program features a tribute to French documentarian and film essayist Chris Marker (La jetée, AK), and a retrospective on Italy’s directing and screenwriting Taviani brothers (Paolo & Vittorio Taviani). The tribute to Marker will be launched with a presentation of the documentary To Chris Marker: An Unsent Letter by the film’s director and one-time Marker collaborator Emiko Omori. The program will conclude with a master class by Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami and screenings of the director’s The Taste of Cherry and The Wind Will Carry Us on May 25.
