Tencent Video Debuts Micro-Movie Channel
Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent has released a new micro-movie channel through the company's Tencent Video service. The new channel appears on the Tencent Video homepage. Tencent Video has stated that it is committed to developing the channel into the premiere choice for China's micro-movie producers when releasing their films.
The micro-movies on Tencent's new channel are separated by category, and include romance, comedy, documentary, and animation micro-movie sections. The channel's main page features an announcements column that displays ads for upcoming micro-movies and recommends top Tencent micro-movies to users. The channel currently contains 100 micro-movies and Tencent plans to upload one new movie each week.
In tandem with the new micro-movie channel, Liu Chunning, general manager of Tencent's online video department, has announced Tencent Video's new "Two 100's" strategy. The company will produce 100 web shows and 100 micro-movies in 2013. The productions will fall into various categories including: falling in love, graduating from college, and fulfilling one's dreams. The company plans for its new micro-movie channel to become a specialized broadcast platform for micro-movies and web shows.
