The Taipei Literature Festival will kick off Feb. 22 with a diverse lineup of events, including literature lectures, film screenings and an exhibition on the life of writers in Taiwan, the organizers said yesterday.
The annual festival, with a theme this year of “Cross Over to Reading,” will invite writers from Taiwan and abroad to speak on topics ranging from poetry, painting and design to travel and adventure, according to Taipei's Department of Cultural Affairs, one of the organizers.
Japanese writer Yuko Tsushima will be the featured guest at the festival this year. A winner of several literary prizes in Japan, Tsushima has a close relationship with Taiwan.
Her novel “Much Too Brutal” was based on the Wushe Incident, a Taiwanese indigenous resistance to Japanese colonial rule in the 1930s. Tsushima will attend three events in Taipei from Feb. 22-24 to share her views about literature with local readers, the organizers said.
