TV Directors Committee to Implement 'Blacklist 8'
The head of China's TV directors committee announced that they will implement a so-called blacklist policy to punish corrupted actors and directors later this month.
At the press conference held in Beijing yesterday, Chen Jialin, president of the association, said they have conducted a great deal of research and discussion on the blacklist policy since last April.
They call the new policy and regulation the "Blacklist 8" -- a list of eight criteria by which to judge whether or not an actor or director should be subjected to the ban. According to director Yang Yang, "Blacklist 8" is aimed to battle corruption and bad behavior in the industry. Examples of such cases are big-shot actors not taking directions because fame has gone to their heads, or a director demanding sexual favors from an actress in return for a role.
The particular details of the "Blacklist 8" are yet to be released, but the inner circle of the guild seems to have had different ideas regarding these fine points. Yang Yang revealed to Sohu.com that in the future, under the new regulations, once a member reports a case and two members verify this allegation, the names of the relevant actor, director and production company will be passed on to other members.
If these allegations are proven to be true, such actors will be blacklisted as "caution collaborators," whose employment members of the guild will have to carefully consider from then on. Directors found guilty will be expelled from the guild and have their deeds exposed to the public.
The press conference also announced the annual meeting of the Chinese TV Drama Directors Committee under the China Radio and Television Association (CRTA) and the inaugural Chinese TV Drama Directors Guild Awards will be held in Jinan, Shandong Province from Jan. 18 to 21. The award show itself will be hosted on the evening of Jan. 20.
