Sculptor Xu Features in Own Film at Guangzhou Festival
A documentary film featuring Chinese sculptor Xu Hongfei, who made his name for a series of works featuring chubby women, was unveiled on Dec 7.
The film, entitled "Plump Ladies," is the only work featuring a local sculptor during the ongoing international documentary film festival in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province.
The festival has attracted 1,488 films from 65 countries and regions, which will be given public screenings.
Xu's film records his activities over the past few years.
"As I made my works I asked photographers and cameraman to take pictures. I want to tell the stories behind the works," Xu said.
Xu, born in 1963 in Guangzhou, studied sculpture at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He has been involved in numerous public sculpture projects in different parts of China since 1990s and has held exhibitions in France, Hong Kong and Thailand.
The artist will open an international exhibition tour next year. One of his works has been permanently exhibited in the United States.
