Winners Announced at Chinese "Oscars"

The winners at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, considered as equivalent to the Chinese-language Oscars, have been announced.

Chinese films, actors and directors have won several awards at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. It is only since 1996 that films from Mainland China have entered the competition. In general, movies made in Hong Kong have won most of the awards.

The 49th awards judged films from Taiwan, Malasia, Singapore and China, including Hong Kong and Macau. The best feature movie award went to "Beijing Blues". The film, from China, also won awards for best editing and best cinematography.

According to CBC Beijing Blues "portrays the lives of the urban dwellers through the work of a squad of plainclothes crime-hunters".

The best director award went to Johnnie TO for "Life without Principle". Awards for the best actors went to : male, Lau Ching Wan, also for "Life without Principle", and female, Gwei Lun-Mei for "Gf*Bf". The full list of winners and nominees can be found on the Golden Horse website.

The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards is a film festival and awards ceremony held annually in Taiwan. It was founded in 1962. The awards ceremony is held after a month-long festival showcasing some of the nominated feature films for the awards.
