U.S.-China Film Summit Bringing Hollywood and China Together
Asia Society Southern California's Entertainment and Media in Asia (EMASIA) Program presented the third annual U.S.-China Film Summit on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at UCLA’s Covel Commons. This three-part panel discussion brought together prominent Chinese and Hollywood film industry leaders to share their experiences and strategies on successfully navigating the East-West filmmaking process.
Sanping Han, Chairman, China Film Group, the exclusive importer of Hollywood and International films into China and China’s largest producer, distributor and exhibitor and Lewis Coleman, President and CFO, DreamWorks Animation SKG, received the 2012 Entertainment Visionary of the Year awards
The first panel at the summit, “Year in Review in Hollywood-China Relations” featured key players discussing the major issues and trends that have developed over the past year.
The second panel focused on the “Globalization of Talent,” and featured key creative talent and professional representatives.
The third panel, “New Wave of China’s Cross-Border Entertainment Investors” will feature top Chinese entertainment investors who are crossing over into international investments.
“The Hollywood and Chinese collaborative landscape remains one of the brightest spots in terms of opportunity for the worldwide entertainment industry. It also remains one of the most challenging, interesting, and still evolving relationships,” said Peter Shiao, Chairman of the Summit and CEO of Orb Media Group.
In September, Chinese conglomerate Wanda completed its purchase of AMC Entertainment, the second-largest U.S. theater chain. In February, the same month as China relaxed its film and profit-sharing quotas, DreamWorks Animation SKG announced a joint venture in China to build a $350 million studio and develop a $3.1 billion cultural and entertainment district in Shanghai.
