VANCOUVER -- Digital Domain Media Group set to make its animated pic debut in co-production with China.
The vfx and CG animation company announced on April 11 that it will co-produce and distribute "The Legend of Tembo" with China's Beijing Galloping Horse Film Co. The pic will be the first family-friendly animated feature from Digital Domain's subsidiary, Tradition Studios. Galloping Horse will market and distribute throughout China.
"Tembo" is the story of a baby African elephant that is captured and shipped to India.
"Consumer demand in China for family focused, feature animation films is surely robust and we are thrilled to have Tembo validated in this market by a strong regional partner that is willing to invest so heavily in its outcome," said John Textor, chairman and CEO of Digital Domain Media Group.
Catapulting on its success in vfx, Digital Domain has been angling to participate as a co-producer in major studio productions and is in production on the upcoming live-action sci-fi feature pic, "Ender's Game."
The company, with studios in Vancouver, L.A., San Francisco, Mumbai and London among others, is in the process of establishing a studio in Beijing.
