The 11th Tokyo Anime Awards kicked off on Saturday, with Chinese animations making a strong showing among the 382 nominations. Let's meet some of the people behind the moving pictures.
"Pig sale", an original animation by Schenzen animator Chen Xifeng, won the "Open Entries Grand Award" in Tokyo.
Chen was delighted with the success.
"I feel honoured to represent China to come here and win this award. We' ve put in much hard work and we will continue our hard work," said Chen Xifeng.
"Happy anniversary", by students from the Communication University of China, took a special award -- one of the highest level awards on offer within Japan's high standard animation competitions.
The romantic comedy tells the story of how a sensitive wife waits for her husband on their wedding anniversary, but her husband constantly misses her phone calls.
The Tokyo awards are being seen as a breakthrough, in giving Chinese animators some much needed international credibility.
The 2012 Tokyo International Film festival has been held every year for the last eleven years. It's Japan's largest animation fair, and aims to provide information and nurture animation talent.
The festival opened on Thursday.
