A new documentary film foundation has been established in China to promote more high quality productions. Officially established on Sunday, the new initiative is supported by a CCTV affiliate and an investment company in Hangzhou. Let's take a look.
"Yuan Ming Yuan" and "the Rise and Fall of Empires" have been big hits for the the Central News and Documentary Film Corporation.
Now, they are seeking to build on these achievements by establishing China's first documentary film foundation.
The foundation seeks to explore a new mode of development by attracting private investment, and expanding the scale of production.
Gao Feng, deputy director of CCTV, said, "The foundation we established will be able to support the production of more than 10 documentary films annually, and we hope this will only be the beginning of development on a much larger scale."
Pan Jun, director of Hangzhou Broad Resources Corp., said, "We have a production chain that covers production, distribution and marketing, these resources will attract more investment in the future."
The foundation intends to put the resources to use, with plans in the works for a series of documentaries celebrating the achievements of former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping during the era of reform and opening-up.
